A Little About Me

Hey there!  I’m Wendy from Wendy Tunison Designs and I’m so thrilled that you’re here!  I’m a work at home mom to 3 amazing daughters (17, 15 & 11), 1 spoiled yellow lab and 2 crazy cats.  We live in a tiny little town in northwest Montana where my husband’s family has lived for 6 generations.  With three daughters, you can be sure there’s never a dull moment around here.  We stay busy with their activities all year and are constantly taking someone to practice or a game.  We’re very into softball and spend nearly 4 months of each year deep in practices and games.  Beyond that we love to explore our “neck of the woods” every chance we can.  We spend as much time as possible camping and getting out for adventures.  When I’m not busy designing, I am the Yearbook Advisor at our local high school.  I also spend some time coaching softball every spring. I love to spend time reading or knitting when I have some spare time.  I have to have something keeping my hands busy all of the time and I’ve found that I can take my knitting anywhere so it’s generally my go to when I can’t play with Photoshop.

I started scrapbooking shortly after my oldest daughter was born.  I received a little fill in the blank scrapbook in the mail and was hooked from the moment pen hit the paper!  Those first pages were full of sticker sneeze (remember those days?!) and crazy cut out photos.  But I kept on going.  By the time my oldest was 6 months old, her scrapbook was every bit of 6” thick!  I scrapped it all!  I had also started collecting supplies and was spending a lot of time scrapping.  Not long after my third daughter was born, I became a Close To My Heart consultant and became an even bigger scrap addict!  I discovered stamping and was completely hooked on having inky fingers and discovering everything that art form had to offer.  I was soon teaching several classes each week and having so much fun creating.  One day about 7 years ago I was working on a scrapbook page and I wanted to fit a large amount of photos on it so I thought I’d try to space it out on my computer screen before I started cutting those photos.  I’m telling you that I thought I had discovered a new craft!  I put those photos together in photoshop and started playing with adding some different colors and textures behind them and did a search for digital papers and oh my goodness!  There was this huge world of digi scrappers out there that I had no idea existed!
I’ll tell you that I never did put that paper layout together.  I was instantly in love with digi scrapping and set out to learn as much as I could.  I was soon part of quite a few creative teams and getting so many layouts done!  It felt awesome!  As a mom to 3 small children at the time, it was so nice to be able to just pull out my computer and get something done without having to worry about a tiny inky finger helping.  Selfish, probably, but I loved this new art form.  After a couple of years I started dabbling a little in designing and made a few kits for blog trains and it wasn’t long after that that I was asked to join a store that a friend of mine was starting.  I jumped in with both feet and no idea what I was doing.  Luckily, Lori, from Scraps N’ Pieces, was a fantastic mentor and held my hand a lot in the beginning.  She’s continued to be a wonderful person to work with and I’m so thankful she gave me a chance to really discover the passion I had for designing.  I love that I am constantly learning as a designer.  There is always something new to try and there are so many wonderful things out there that inspire me to create.  I am a color lover.  I find myself constantly snapping pictures of random things because I think the colors would make a great kit.  My kits are always evolving.  My style varies with my mood and I enjoy creating beautiful heritage kits as well as some funkier art journal style kits.  I work with an amazing group of women that make up my creative team.  The way they can take what I create and build the most jaw dropping pages always makes me smile.  It’s such a blessing to be surrounded by the most amazing people each day who help me to continue to feed my soul with creativity.  I enjoy designing so much and am thankful to be part of such an awesome community every day.
